I used to see Nantucket in all of the rock magazines of the 70's and 80's such as Hit Parader, Circus and Creem with interviews and who the band members were and I remember that they had two keyboard players in the early days they were a nice band at the time I always liked them but I forgot all about them until this ranking here Thanks.🎵🎶🎼🎼🎶🎵
As a huge Zappa fan I was delighted when Jamie started with the preamble to ‘’Cheapness’’. Some superb picks from the panel on one of the great tribute episodes. Thanks fellas’, love The Monster’s Den.
Squackett is out of this world. Such a shame that Chris and Steve only got to make one album. Picture quality is great here by the way.
Another Sabbath fan first, Live Evil all the way. I agree with Chris' take on SOTD.
Another band (though I wouldn’t exactly call it a band) the dude “M” who sang “Pop Muzik” from 1979 is a good example of someone who’s other stuff sounds alot different. The rest of the album that song on is not very good though it has a few good songs. His follow up album though (Official Secrets 1980) is a VAST improvement!!!! It went in a more new wave sorta direction but it was much more serious sounding and much darker. That guy MUST have a cult following among the synth pop/electronic music fanbase I’m sure. His albums are REALLY hard to find though. All out of print and super expensive cuz let’s face it M is not exactly a household name lol.
great album, great show as always! Thanks guys!
One album I was surprised to see which did have at least one other good song and I’m a bit reluctant to hear the rest of it cuz their biggest hit was terrible was Katrina and the Waves of all bands. Out of morbid curiosity I took a chance and checked out their attempt at a second hit/follow up single to Walking on Sunshine. It was called “Do you want crying” and it sounds NOTHING like Walking on Sunshine!!! It is more reminiscent of Pat Benatar or Joan Jett or something in that vein. It was probably a minor hit at least (Went to #37 on the billboard Hot 100) I’m kinda curious to see if the rest of the album might be similar to that. Has anyone heard the rest of that album? Also wondering if that song might’ve gotten alot of airplay or like I said just a minor hit.
Creatures!
That Yamaha rev , why doesn't Santana play them
Chris Rea's The Road To Hell is a killer album. I like REM and Green Day.
Nice choice Pete. Good to have seen all in the gallery. Said hello. Not a stellar day and the first of being hot so stayed in which was hard to do but did Hope everyone had a nice dau and fathers day. Miss my dad on this day and brother of being a dad, him also. As well as grandparent dads. TC stay cool
Good, interesting list.
Nantucket was formed in 1969 in Jacksonville, NC as a school band by the quartet of Larry and Mike Uzzell, Mark Downing and Tommy Redd. The early group went under the name of 'Stacks Of Gold' - playing mostly R&B, soul & beach music covers - until adopting the title of the Mountain track 'Nantucket Sleighride' in 1971, shortening it to Nantucket soon afterwards.
Last Glance?
Thank you, Pete, for your pick. All the damn time. My #15 Pick: DragonForce- Maximum Overload 🎤🎸🎵🎹🥁 Life is better with music
If Brian maintained his voice from Back in Black, would your rankings differ?
Loving the show. Am a newish subscriber and have been binge watching the shows from recent years. Lynne is awesome as are all of you. Ive loved the back and forth banter between Lynne and Butch. lol
Those first two albums I'll take anytime!
I'm open to A Passion Play, but as of this moment it's charms are still hidden from me.
TAAB is the one, in 50 years I've never gotten tired of it, love it as much as ever. With the bucolic sister albums SFTW and HH being close 2nds.
I have Images and Words what else do you recommend
Tom Perry - Hypnotic Eye
Just heard a song from them the other day and wondered if you did a ranking. Thanks for the info. Are these available on cd and if so, what label?
I really appreciate your sadness even all these years later. I really take Solace in “The Garden” he’s up there tending his Garden.
World record Ken yap session
No, Eric Johnson was the first choice for replacing Holdsworth!!!
The Pretty Reckless, Rival Sons, Alter Bridge The Warning and while I’ more a fan of Lzzy as a vocalist Halestorm are a pretty decent rock band. I’ve also been getting into Dirty Honey
Only the songs "Heartbreaker" which peaked at # 121 (July 1978) & "Gimme Your Love" at # 120 (August 1979) only charted on Record World (which the company ended in April of 1982). The album "Long Way To The Top" went to # 206 for 1 week (Billboard Bubbling Under The Top 200 Albums) on August 30, 1980.
The group Lake who's lead singer almost sounds like former Yes singer Jon Anderson did a song called "Time Bomb" in 1978 from their self-titled!! (not the remake though)
Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs "Sugar Shack" from 1963 was better than Nantucket's song!! (laughs)
You have to listen to "Stream of Consciousness" by Vision Divine. It's like Helloween meets Queensryche. It's an amazing Italian band (especially with Michele Luppi on vocals).
Their 5th album (known as "V" from 1984) is their worst album at the bottom of the barrel. "Your Face Or Mine" (1979) is my # 1.
Just sent in my first order to Ken's website. Anxiously anticipating the arrival.
15 - IQ Road of Bones
I think Permanent Vacation has aged pretty well, but no releases after that. I agree a bit with Simon, though. I feel like I should like Aerosmith much more than I do.
15. Kosmischer Läufer - The Secret Cosmic Music Of The East German Olympic Program 1972-83: Volume Two
It's easy to see why this band never made the big time. The rockier elements are great but then they all too often to chance the pop charts with the sudden move to the soft harmonies that a million and one US bands were putting out at the time. The fact that these changes were happening within the same track just distracts from the harder rock sound, making songs feel very disjointed and killing the initial vibe. I wonder if there was some REO Speedwagon/Styx envy that they were attempting to reproduce. Some definite Kevin Cronin envy at times.
Yes, I liked Nantucket back then and bought the records as they came out. Was due to see them on an upstate NY outdoor festival type show in July '78 but they didn't end up playing on the day because of time constraints. So I never did see them in concert.
Head Easy never been any reason Nantucket very underrated band love the first album heartbreaker my favorite song you should rank head East
l have heard this on You Tube, and would go for it as the No. #9 Pick of the Day. Carlos does plenty for Peace and Joy through his Music and is rightly revered and enjoyed across many cultures!!
Extra note, l still see Black lce as the comeback for AC/DC, more so than Back ln Black, because they went nowhere, as a result of Bon's death.
I’m a lifelong Purple/Rainbow fan and have seen the fantastic Mastodon twice in Glasgow .. This album sounds great and I’m sure these guys were in the audience at Barrowland too. What a gig. Mastodon are one of the few bands of that genre I can relate to. Dvne tick all the same boxes and also have their own sound. Hope to see them live too.
Great show! I had no clue these guys were known outside of North Carolina.
Thanks for the ranking. I don't know them at all. I'll check them
Good chose Pete. I love the Doors.
Craig has the worst picks.
I’m all in on ranking the albums of Head East. Great show today! 🎸🎧🍄🟫
Saw John Etheridge, at Hastings Fishermans Club cost £8 and there was a bar as well. absolutely brilliant
These CDs are really hard to find. All out of print.
